Cadillac was founded in Detroit, Michigan, in 1902 by Henry M. Leland and his partners. It was named after Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, the founder of the city of Detroit. In the early 1910s, Cadillac introduced several groundbreaking innovations. One of the most significant was the electric self-starter, invented by Charles Kettering, which eliminated the need for hand cranking and made starting the car easier and safer.
